Hi Emily. I've written a children story, The Old Covered Bridge, but it's for children between 7 and 12 years old.

That should be okay, Barry - I think class 4 is 8-9 years old.

Thanks, Beef. I'll continue to watch this thread closely.

I just checked ... is it for poetry only?

Emily Dubberley (not verified) | June 1, 2001 - 17:23

Yes it is - sorry!

Barry Wood (not verified) | June 1, 2001 - 17:26

Thanks, Emily.

Harry Potter with his broom,
He can fly around his room,
He's at school with witches and wizards,
When he casts a spell he causes blizzards,
His favourite game is playing quiditch,
His favourite food is not spinache,
Not very tall,and wearing glasses,
Which he needs to see in all his classes,
I love Harry I think he is great,
And when I read his books,he feels like a mate.

this is great are you in year 4

John Tummon (not verified) | June 17, 2001 - 21:57

My son William is not in year 4 as such - his Primary School has a mixed age Year 3/4 class. Will is technically a Year 3 pupil but was born in September 1992, so is over 8 and a half. He loves Harry Potter and enjoys poetry.

In addition, we don't live anywhere near London (over 200 miles north of it).

Does either fact disqualify him?

Dear John,

He can enter because he is the right age and it does not matter where you live - the competition is open to all 8 and 9 year olds.

The poem has to be on the theme of summer.

I wish him good luck!

Rebecca,

This is a great poem - well done. I really like the rhymes you've used. Just so you know, the theme of this particular competition is summer - have a look at the Bloomsbury website if you want to read more
(http://www.bloomsburymagazine.com/redir.asp?id=25 for the competition)

Keep up the writing - this is great,

Sue

It is summer and always hot,
But then I like to read a lot,
Sitting under the apple tree,
Wondering who I'd like to be,
but then it came to me ,
Harry Potter wild and free,
thats who I'd like to be,
