Nature

Water Sculpture.

Rushing over boulder
smoothing down the edges,
carrying the excess far away
and offloading it in the bay;
the womb in which the rock gestates
under the nurturing gaze

  The Crossroads.

And there is Mammon;
consumer of worlds and
instigator of pitiless toil,

with teeth biting into the primal world,
excreting lobotomised clone life
and grinning from a billion eyeless faces.

Why so many?

Why so many?

“Carrying same physiological and anatomical features
having similar chromosome and genetic structure,
sharing the same planet for their bread and butter,

Brightness in the dark

Ever been to the seashore at nightfall? well, this is how I felt that day!

To all the seasons, I am thankful

To all the seasons, I am thankful,
for their beauty, wisdom, hope and joy;
my four noble, trusted companions
without whom my heart would be destroyed.

To the child of spring; the ever hopeful

Our river

Our river
P K Routray
Can a river belong to a sect or village?
but our love for our river has given us such a faith and a courage.
This is the longest and perennial river of the region,

Remember this bright Summer

Remember this bright Summer
when all the Autumn sky is grey.
Remember blossoms on the trees
when Autumn leaves are tossed away.
Remember her you loved;

The Wonder Of A Rose

Every rose is a colossus,
towering overhead.
Every rose is like a lighthouse
with an eye of blazing red.
Every petal more impressive
than all the pyramids and tombs

Woodpecker’s shock-absorbers

Hammering rapidly:
force on its head that is
greater than 1000 g*.
(If banged at just 300g,
we’d be concussed,
or our brains would be messed.)
Specialised structure of
bones and tendons,

Broken Sparrow

Broken Sparrow
With an Eagle's heart
You take flight
On the winds tide

Slowly you start to fly
Not once wavering
In front of rain or stormy clouds
The sky your joy and pride

Nature's Rhythm

From time spent in the garden, observing nature in the city, still thankful.

SOLAR ECLIPSE, AUGUST 11th. 1999.

And how, across the bridges of the years, must ancient chieftains have trembled before this swift assassin of the Light.

The Elephant’s Trunk

40,000 muscles in a powerful limb
that can branches rip,
pick a single pin,
with its mobile tip,
yet can dig for moisture,
without skin’s rupture.

It’s a long sucking nose

Brain Clouds

Outside, I hear the loud percussion
of rain falling in rank and file;
splashing, clattering; grey clouds gushing
on terracotta pots and tiles.

Shooting shining silver quivers,

A most remarkable autopsy.

how all famous people's autopsies go i expect

Toadstools

TOADSTOOLS

There can be no weather like this
wind grazed walls and window frames
the sky growls in anger
begging to be let in
no compromise, no negotiation

  The Intruders

The door, all-but
hanging off its hinges...

Two of Those.

Pairs and pears.

We generate the wave

(for them to surf)

12 Stanzas on Origin.

That star; our mother in the heaven
bursts into flame and
thaws our frozen father;
he that had been imagined in the void.

These two unite in time and space,
