from the ABC set Poems

I stand still for nobody
Your life and death are claimed by me
Your resolutions fall by me
All weathers are the same to me

Alive before the first bird sang
Alive until there is no land
I can’t be touched
I can’t be seen

I pass on by relentlessly
I do not stop or pause to think
I do not eat
I do not drink

I do much bad
I do much good
I’m quartered up
Not understood

I am all seeing
But knowing I’m not
The healer of hearts
Or a joke for love struck

If once you blink then I am gone
I can’t return from whence I come
And if you’re wise you will agree
It’s best to make the most of me
