Video games are one of the marvels of human evolution, they are a culmination of centuries of discoveries and bring imaginative, inexplicable worlds alive before your very eyes. Video games bring joy to people from all walks of life with their marvelous characters and intricate storylines. They are my escapism, my lifejacket amidst in sea of very boring and very pointless moments. Its a world where i can live my dreams and exercise my will, unrestrained by the conventions of society. Video games free us, they allow us to dictate our own paths in games like mass effect, they allow us to be the hero in a world stricken by war in gears of war and they teach us amazing things about our past in assassins creed. Games are our passport to immortality, we can live the past and play the future. They allow us to live our dreams from the safety of our own living rooms and experience things outside the realm of our own existence. The singleplayer engages us, and give free reign to our imagination to spill out onto the screen and consume every last high definition pixel. The multiplayer challenges us so many levels while retaining our attention for several months. Friends are made through video games and friends are kept through video games. We can meet people from all around the world on xbox live, making friends in the process, uniting due to a common interest. No longer are we known as the guy from South africa and the guy from canada, but rather two teenagers sharing in their love for the mass effect 3 multiplayer. I believe that video games have a firm place in modern society and without them the world would be a far more boring and dreary place. Because whats the world without talking dogs and undead lizard creatures trying to consume our souls.
