Jack is back

from the ABC set Poems

Jack is back
and John has gone
and Michael has
his armour on

The rest, at best
will be here late
too late to stop
our final fate

No smile, no guile
will spare us now
no passing saviour
show us how

The bus for us
will never leave
no lover spared
to mourn or grieve

Who won? No one
to shed a tear
for when we are
no longer here

And God, poor sod
will be alone
in temples lost to
flesh and bone

Here, I fear
it comes at last
a silence building
from the past.

Words like birds
are blown away
and all is still
like yesterday.

Many thanks insert and scratch and also cherry person. I feel embarrassed that I so seldom comment on the work of others on account of being a lazy bastard. My other excuse is that when confronted with the remarkable posts on this site I become tongue tied (or finger frozen. I'll try harder.
