The tree of life

from the ABC set Poems from David Davidson

Out or the corner
of his eye
he saw the tree,
it was sparkling
with silver light,
tiny rainbows
hanging and
dancing from
every needle,
it was so beautiful
his heart leapt,
and for a moment
he was convinced
he was seeing
something Holy.

But when he turned
to look at it properly,
he realized it was just
the way the early
morning sun
caught the dew.

Meanwhile the
wood nymphs
were running through
the forest laughing
and congratulating
themselves on
opening the eyes
of another human being.
