Ensconced in summer's tacit frame
(From Jones & Son Frame Makers)
The livid skies arrayed in flame
(The furnace, near the baker's)
In opalescent morning dew
(Don't go out in your slippers)
I swear my solemn vows anew
(While eating breakfast kippers)
Soon Ozymandias turns to sand
(We did that stuff in school)
And Orpheus takes him by the hand
(Not homos, so it's cool)
Through turgid, foetid malcontent
(You've got a dic, so use it)
The phenolphthaleins circumvent
(But try not to abuse it)
In naked fear their horror grows
(They're naked! Oh my Lord!)
To Dry Tortu this poem goes
(I'll stop; I'm getting bored)
(Phenolphthalein is pronounced Fee-nolth-Eileen, if that helps. It's still pronounced that way if it doesn't help. ;))

I'm not the sort of person who would comment on something like this.

Quite right too. I thought it was quite good, though.

Don't tell him that, it will only encourage him.

"...Fee-nolth-Eileen...?"
Sounds like a girl I once knew from Tighnabruaich in Scotland who served me kippers for breakfast.
Or if I remember correctly she was called Eileen Fee-nolth or maybe it was just Eileen.
FTSE100 | October 5, 2011 - 03:08
Is there really a place called Scotland? Sounds so unlikely.

One of the big reasons I do not like modern rhyme poetry is because, for me, you get so boxed into the rhyme, you end up with a cliched mess.
This however is NOT boxed in, or cliched !
Bloody Brilliant !

Thanks Maggie. I quite like writing in strict rhyme and metre but that's probably because there are a lot of similarities in the way I hear poetry and music.
Thanks for commenting.

You are telling little porky pies FTSE, you know there is such a place as Scotland, because...
"...then went North to see what the Scots were getting up to. He re-did bits of Scotland too, colouring in the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Tay on his Romans map...."
See, you have been found out.
FTSE100 | October 6, 2011 - 03:51
I thought I'd made it up. You mean there really is such a place? Next you'll be telling me it's full of Scotsmen!

A poem within a poem, Footsie. This is like poetic inception! Very well crafted, made me laugh. Congrats on the cherries!

Thanks Magic. I find this stuff very easy to do. The poetry I can't do is the good stuff, like yours. Bum!
