Two-cylinder Life

from the ABC set A Collection of Nothing In Particular

I’ve got a two-cylinder life;
Put-put-put-, it goes,
And the wheels turn.
Not with any great conviction,
Or in any particular direction,
But what a life it is to take it slowly!
Put-put-putt-ing along boulevards,
Bathed in kisses from milky-sun
Evenings,
With the top down,
And summer’s rhetoric
Playing on the radio.
Life is here!
Fading paint on the bonnet
Red and white,
Still defies the winter months –
Spent under tarpaulin,
And used very little.
My two-cylinder life, saved for summer,
Not ideal, perhaps,
But I love her;
She’s a good little runner.

ItsSteveDave,

I don't usually sit down to read poetry. One reason for this? It can be difficult to understand and absorb. But this was well interesting. Never realized the abundance of very talented poets on this site - or any site for that matter - but, shame on me! :P I deprive myself of such awesome reads that way... Keep up the gooood work

Thank you JessicaA, I really appreciate you stopping by!

I always think that poetry is what it means to the person reading it - see 'The Enjoyment of Poetry' - sorry for the shameless self-promotion :) if you don't relate to something, or it doesn't strike a chord with you, just try another one, luckily, they are often short, so it doesn't take long!

And I agree, there is some brilliant poetry on this site!

Yes, I actually do like how poetry is quick to read because of its general size, all while compacted with sooo much. Imagery. Feeling. Beauty. Different perspectives. Maybe even a long story in itself...its a true mind opener, can't deny that. :P
And sure, I will see that one. :)

Thank you, Lavadis, very much appreciated, I am at Chapter 12 of Ex and loving everything about it, but I will save that for a comment on your page!

'And summer’s rhetoric
Playing on the radio.
Life is here!'

Very nice piece here. I really enjoyed the images created, and the general atmosphere of the poem. Really well done!

Cheers,
Steve.

Many thanks for the positive comment, Steve. I am overdue a read of your work. I will certainly stop by when the stress of work relents! Cheers!
