I bought a domain name the other day;
www.cynics.com,
Spent time designing a banner
To let people know they were in the right place,
I got one of those visitor counters;
I placed it with subtlety.
My aptitude for visual design
Is very important to me.
I need people to know it is mine,
So I gave my name a line,
Fairly small, but enough for all to see.
I opened the virtual doors,
The first week saw a bit of activity,
‘Not to worry’, I thought,
‘There are plenty of cynics in the sea’.
* * *
A year down the line;
Membership is through the roof,
The forums are packed with people
Debating over internet flotsam,
(With some horrific use of the English language).
You would think I had completed my task,
But for routine maintenance, inevitably,
But an overriding feeling remains;
The people on my site don’t understand cynicism
Quite as well as me.

Not happy about having a hyperlink within the text! It looks like spam...
Click it at your own risk - it is a fictional site I made in my head box so god knows where the link leads.

actually apart from the horrific use of the english language, I quite liked it... :)

I like this poem- the ending said it all..by the way the link is a pretty dull one strangely enough...

Yeah I followed it soon after, just an internet dead-end - not sure if that quite counts as irony. Mind you the guy at the closely related www.apathy.com has certainly gone to a lot of effort to let people know he doesn't give a toss...
Maisie, thank you for your comment - is it just that line in particular which doesn't float your boat? I would probably replace it rather than take it out. Is there anything else I should address in your opinion?
Steve.
