Dieting

from the ABC set University

Do you ever fail
at anything? People say it’s easy
if you do – you just try, try
again. It seems
unfair to me, though – my weight
puts me at an obvious

disadvantage on a diet, and an obvious
means to fail.
I need to lose weight
but it’s never easy
for me. It seems
like every time I try,

I fail. I try
diet after diet, and it’s obvious
none of them work. It seems
like my body has doomed me to fail.
My thyroid is underactive, so it’s not easy
for me to lose weight.

People say I shouldn’t have put on the weight
in the first place. I try
to explain that it’s so easy
to put on a stone, but it’s obvious
they don’t believe me. I fail
to stick to a diet because it’s never as good as it seems

It seems
as though I’m doomed to stay at that weight,
or higher, forever. Maybe one day I’ll find a diet I won’t fail
at, will enjoy, and will try
my hardest at. It’s obvious
that diets will never be that easy.

It’s easy
to see that I’m stuck in a mindset which seems
greedy, and unwilling to change. But, it’s obvious
to me that it’s all to do with the love of food. I’ll lose weight
when nice food is healthy, and people try
harder not to judge. Then I’ll work harder not to fail.

So, it’s obvious now, I have to lose weight
although it’s not as easy as it seems.
I’ll try though. I just hope I don’t fail
