from the ABC set Stories for the heart

A father and son were walking down the sidewalk one day behind two men. One man had a black shirt on, the other blue. The two men were in a deep conversation as they began to cross the street. They didn't see the oncoming, fast moving bus. The father and son saw what was about to happen. The son ran to push the men to safety. The son was killed and the two men were saved. The father knelt on the ground and held his son in his arms. He told the two men,"please throughout your lives, tell what my son did for you."

The two men humbly agreed and went on their way. The man in the black shirt went into the city and began telling the story. A shadowed stranger walked up and gave him a hand full of gold and said "There is power and wealth in this story." The stranger then disappeared in the crowd. The black shirt man then began to think that the stranger was right, so he stood up on a fountain side and began to preach the story.

People brought him gifts and wanted to be part of this thing. The gold kept coming and the black shirt man built his first of many to come church buildings. His disciples were popping up all over the world! They were telling people that the spirit of the son could save them from harm and give them blessings of gold. People rushed to buy little gold buses with blood on the front to wear around their necks. The black shirt man wallowed in wealth and power.

The blue shirt man went into the country and towns to tell the story. He worked as a carpenter for his humble living and visited the lame, sick and poor on his way. The shadowed stranger also approached the blue shirt man and offered him gold. The blue shirt man told the stranger,"I will not take your gold for the blood of one who saved me!" The stranger disappeared.

The blue shirt man told the story to all he met and any gifts or money that he received, he gave all of it to those in need. He told the people that the story of the son represented the greatest things within themselves and they too could be like the son of kindness.

It came to pass when the father of the son called the two men to his mansion.

The shadowed stranger let them in the door. The father was about to die. The two men were surprised that the old father had such enormous wealth. The father secretly owned the entire world. The father sat up in his bed and said to the man in the black shirt," my son died to save you and you have sold his blood to pigs, you have made his name into a market of harlots, you have adorned yourself in jewels and gold along with your disgusting cohorts!"

The father raised his right hand while calling the guard he shouted," get this piece of evil out of my sight, cast off his golden garments, round up his disciples and pigs to take them all into my wasteland!" The black shirt man squalled," but I did as you said, I did as you said!"

By this time, the blue shirt man trembled at the power of the father and knelt at the end of his bed. The father smiled and said "come here to my side". As the blue shirt man stood by the father, the father said to him," you and the people you have touched with the story have been my very light, my son is alive and well in your hearts, the spirit of my son shall rule within all of you through his kindness and his power, along with him, you all inherit my kingdom."

The father soon passed. The blue shirt man gathered the people and celebrated the life of the son and the father.

Good became king over gold.
