THE BLACK SHOES

from the ABC set WRITING 2012

A girl and her true love went out for a walk near a mill at the start of the Spring.
They spread out their blanket beside the millstream and then sat down to hear the birds sing.
He brought them a picnic - she opened the box to examine what joys were inside;
She chose a prawn sandwich and took a large bite, then her lover said :’Please be my bride’.
She was shocked and surprised but when she saw the ring she felt she had nothing to lose;
But she choked on that sandwich and fell in the pond – all they found was a pair of black shoes.
This tale has a moral for lovers intent on proposing a trip to the altar:
Don’t ask while she’s eating or if you feel you must – at least do not do it near water!

Cheers Roy. This was a competition entry, you had to get 'a pair of black shoes@ and 'prawn sandwich' into a piece of work. Didnt win but it was fun.
