This is in praise of the Unwritten poem
we celebrate the cult of the taciturn
Uphold the meek and demure
And reinforce the moderation of the wild
We cut our beards
And shave our pubes
Press our blouses
And sniff our socks
This is in praise of the Unwritten poem
where words do not suffice
where no one could understand
where it could not be described
where lock and key are fused in lock
This is in praise of the unwritten poem
that needs not be expressed
that is part of our fabric
Assimilated and accepted
treasured or tolerated
This is in praise of the unwritten poem
that is expressed in music
engulfed in prose
shadowed in dance
and poised in art
This is in praise of the unwritten poem
That someone wrote better
That was tackled at all
That was like another one you saw
That was just better in your head
This is in praise of the unwritten poem
because poetry is unfashionable
for nerds, geeks, and squares
For wierdoes, saddos, and teacher's pets
because we prefer rap, and other lyrics
This is in praise of the Unwritten poem
That would rather not be here
Quilled without consent
That you see before you
Naked, unashamed, and true
