“It’s been a week, Rasheeda since his number flashed a cross my phone. I don’t know what happened; we were getting along so well. I’m talkin phone calls every day to this, I’m hurtin so bad. All I want is for him to call me and tell me that he’s ok. I’ve tried to call him several times but his phone is off, and the people he’s stayin with keep tellin me that his not there. I even caught myself crying at work today, I don’t think I’ve ever hurt this bad.” “Well Jalisa, you know just as well as I do that you don’t need that type of drama in your life. He is a bum ass nigga and you deserve better. You need to leave the trash in the trash can, and don’t you dare try to recycle it.” “Rasheeda you don’t understand, I love him and I miss him like crazy.” Rasheeda sighs deeply. “Girl what am I gonna do with you how long have yall been talkin anyway?” “About four or five months.” “Four or Five months, and you already sayin you love him what the hell?” Rasheeda chuckles and says “He must got that good dick huh?” “That’s none of your damn business; anyway girl let me call you back.”
I met him right before Mother’s day. I remember because I was on my way to get a gift card for my grandmother. I had just taken my break, and I only had a few minutes and normally when I’m in a time crunch I walk rather fast. As I swiftly walked to the food court at Chesterfield Town Center, I noticed a guy walking, not really paying him any mind I kept it movin. But little did I realize I had caught his eye. “Ay girl come mear” He yelled out “I had turned back around because I was curious. As I walked up to him I started thinking what the hell I am I doing, he looked like a thug. Pants hangin of his ass and he was wearin sunglasses inside the building, really the paparazzi is not after you boo. “Hey” I said. “Wat’s up mommi u got a man?” in his northern accent, I reply back “No I don’t”. He towered over top of me, which was something I admired about him “What’s your name?” He asked. “Jalisa”, I said with a smile he smiled back and said “my name is Travis, can I get your number?” I even though I was a little skeptical about him I decide why not give him a try after all he was a cutie. “Put your number in my phone.” He told me, and I did. “So let me get your number?” he replied back this phone is not even on right now” in all honesty I should have kept it movin after he said that but I ignored it.
Later that night I received my 1st phone call from Travis and we talked all night long. He told me that he was 18 and from Camden, New Jersey and you know I’m 19 normally I didn’t talk to guys younger than me but he seemed different. He had told me that he had moved to Richmond because he kept getting in trouble, so he came down here to be with his grandmother and aunt. The wired part about it was that he stayed with a friend of his and his mother whom he called his brother & godmother. He had also schooled me a little on Camden he was the first person I’d ever met from there. The more we talked the more I was intrigued, he was that bad boy I’d always wanted, and I hung on to his every word. He had become my first real love, and I knew in my heart that we would be together forever. We had made plans to see each the next day; our meeting place was the McDonald’s on Midlothian right across from the Taco Bell towards the South Side of Richmond. It was about noonish when I pulled up in my long rusty Burgundy 1988 Buick. He had hopped in the car he had introduced me to his friend “this is my brother Markus” I looked over at him and pulled out a fake smile “Hi”. Markus was dark skin and on the plump side he had a northern accent too “What’s up?” I wasn’t thrilled to have him tag along but I thought what the hell Travis & I had really hit off on the phone the night before, so I was willing to do whatever I had to, to get closer to him.
When we got to their apartment complex I was a little nerves, I had no idea how this would go but I was willing to see it through. As we walked into their apartment, Travis also introduced me to his godmother. He called her moms “Hello” she said “Hi” I responded back. Moms was on her way out which meant that the three of us would be by ourselves for a while. “Jalisa, come with me up stairs.” Travis wanted to be alone with me, even though I had butterflies in my stomach I felt the same way he did so I got up and followed him. He had laid down in the bed and asked me to join him. Of course it had started off innocent, I laid down beside him and he put his arm around me. We laid there watching Martin for a while, I was comfortable and it seemed as though he was as well. Travis looked over at me with a smile “you are so beautiful” “I smiled back and said “thank you, I really think you’re handsome.” He rolled over and gave me a kiss on the lips, and it was like fireworks. He had then kissed me on my neck, and then off went my shirt. I knew that we had just met and we should have waited but at that moment it felt so good. We both had gotten completely undressed in a matter of minutes and then he went inside me, he knew exactly what he was doing. In the mist of it all there was a knock at the bedroom door. Travis yelled in frustration “What!” it was Markus “Ay, yo I think my moms is on her way back.” “Shit!” Travis shouted out. Both of us annoyed stopped to put our clothes back on.
“Damn it” I whisper as I wake up to my phone ringing. “Hello” irritated because I was interrupted from a good night’s rest. “Hey baby it’s me.” “Where in the hell have you been?” “I been in Jersey.” “Travis you didn’t you tell me that you were leavin?” “It wasn’t a planned trip, my aunt asked me if I wanted to go and I said yes.” “What? Are you kidding me and you couldn’t call me to tell me that?” “Are you comin by to see me?” I sighed deeply “Yeah, I’ll be by tomorrow.” “Ok, I love you” “I love you too.” All day at work I thought about what I was going to say to Travis, how I was gonna lay him out and give him a piece of my. I was pissed off about that shit how in the hell can you love somebody and leave for about a week without tellin them? As soon as I got off I called Travis to let him know I was on my way over. When I pulled up Travis was already outside waiting on me. “Hey boo, what you been up to?” “Nothin just getting off from work, you?” “Chillin” “So how was Jersey?” I asked sarcastically. “It was good, I saw my mom and my brothers and sister.” “Travis why didn’t you call me?” “I told you why” “That’s not a good enough excuse; I have been worried sick about you.” “I’m sorry I didn’t call but I’m not use to having to tell people where I’m goin.” In mind all I could think of was that’s bullshit. “Don’t be mad at me, I love you” “I love you too.” Later that night we snuck off for some us time, and I needed it. He was my baby and I was crazy about him, and if he apologizes of course I’ma forgive him.
As I pulled into my driveway my phone rang. It was Raheeda, I know she was just calling to be nosy. “Hello” I said answering the phone. “Hey, girl you still wit Travis?” “No, I’m at home now” “So tell me what happened when you told him off girl?” “Nothin” “What the hell do you mean nothing? I mean you did tellin how you felt and broke it off wit him right?” “Well…”Rasheeda had cut me off before I could explain myself. “Well? All hell did you forgive him Jalisa?” “Yes I did, I love him and I really want this to work” “Jalisa he disappeared for a week and you love him, are you kidding me?” “I know it sounds crazy, but…” Rasheeda cut me off again. “You’re right it does sound crazy, but you know what girl, do what you gotta do to make yourself happy even if it means accepting bullshit apologizes.” I understood where she was coming from but at the same time my heart is in this and I knew if I had broken it off with him it would have hurt really bad and a broken heart was something I did not want to endure.
I can’t believe that girl, if I was her I’d definitely tell that nigga where he can go. Ugh, let me get some sleep in for tomorrow I got a long day. Working two both jobs again, I am so exhausted.
