Archangel Gabriel

from the ABC set Parson Thru II

The Archangel Gabriel
takes to the air
above the tracks
on Platform 15

A hundred
empty utopian eyes
look on from a shattered corpse
And nothing here is
as it might seem

Nothing is as it might seem

The gull stares
nonplussed at the rat
and gapes at the sky
to scream

As it stabs
at the unburdened rodent
and raises its silvered wings aloft
I wander through unknown
streets in a dream

I find myself lost in a dream

I see the bankers
have turned into crooks
as the newspaper
vents its spleen

While their friends in
Government wallow in shit
and join them at the trough
Yet somehow manage to
come out clean

Nothing is as it might seem

Too right it isn't. But a good poetic exposé of the reality of things. Well done parsons.

Thanks scratch. I love your French accent.

Don't thank me thank the I-Pad genie!

Shazzam! Be careful how often you rub it!

Lovely grub, especially the gull's antipathy to the rat.
I went to RBS to put money in for my printers today and they didn't even have a cashier. All I did was put the notes in an envelope, fill out the a/c no and sort code and the lady at the desk said thanks and put it through a letterbox in the wall. It felt like such a dodgy deal.
No wonder Shred made a packet out of RBS. No need for staff, a need for people to trust the bank, no harmless chat for the elderly, no personality, no character, just concrete and Thai smiles. This reminded me of that horrible bank.
I told the lady that I'd never bank there in a million years and then I got worried about what she might do with me money. No receipt given. What a bloody nerve.

Trust me. I'm a banker.

Yer.

Is it just this country that's naff? Answers on a deposit slip, please.

Thanks Blighters. What happened to the good old days? ;-)

Another quirky piece which has your `stamp' on it. It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess, whatever that means....

Parson Thru | July 4, 2012 - 07:34

Thanks seashore. Nod's as good as a wink... ;-)

Hi PT, read this four times! Yes four times! Every time I noticed something else in it. Brilliant stuff mate.

Rigel | July 4, 2012 - 09:12

Ditto, and some;-)

ItsSteveDave | July 4, 2012 - 09:18

Nice PT, now to record that onto an exploding cassette tape and send it to Downing Street...

Edenfalls | July 4, 2012 - 09:30

Really good PT. Says everything yet says nothing!

Stan | July 4, 2012 - 09:58

'Nothing is as it might seem'... something really foreboding about that. Dead right, too. Good stuff.

Parson Thru | July 4, 2012 - 18:49

jolono, Rigel, ItsSteveDave, Edenfalls and Stan, thank you for your lovely comments. Don't know what to say. Just happy that you and others are enjoying it. That's just lovely. Lovely. I must stop repeating myself, I must.

another stormer... great stuff!

my favourite part
"The gull stares
nonplussed at the rat
and gapes at the sky
to scream"

very clean, the words move like heavy boats, love it.

Thank you so much. All booked. Genuine hotel review: "The staff were very friendly and helpful and when the volcano exploded helped us to find somewhere else" Wicked! Can't wait. Might have been Como. Not Perry, obviously (you might have a 78).
