from the ABC set Parson Thru I

Afraid he’s passed away?
Oh, thank you.
Well…
that’s ok.

You see…
we thought he might.
He wasn’t meant
to last the night.

Or so they said last time.
We waited…
but he was fine.

We hung around and watched him eat
and take, like Lazarus,
to his feet.

We talked of spring, avoided death
and willed him on
with every breath.

We looked into each other’s eyes
and smiled.
Not great at saying goodbyes.

And now you’re telling me he’s dead.
No…
surely?

Have you checked his shed?

A beautiful little piece, I like the upbeat pace that contrasts the content, adds a layer to it.

Thanks Maggy.

Really nice of you to say that. It was agonising trying to get something out, but then it just poured out almost at the pace that it reads. Read it at the Halo Bar in Bristol this week and it was nicely received.

I've been meaning to go to the Halo Bar, I'll have to once I'm back in the UK. I'm glad it went down well, wouldn't have expected otherwise!
