A 2-year old’s Birthday Perplexities

No likes yet ♦

from the ABC set Families

Birthdays are fun
for everyone.
But when you are two,
it’s strange and new –
you can’t make out
what it’s all about,
feel puzzled
and dazzled
by presents galore,
and knocks at the door
from Gran and Nan,
and Jenny and Ann …
hugging and singing,
laughing and bringing
so many toys
my sister enjoys,
and paper to tear
lying everywhere,
cake and jelly
(no time for telly) …
I can’t stop yawning,
maybe in the morning
it’ll be quiet instead,
– so I think I’ll just
go up to bed!

Again Rhiannon, you have charmed your readers...writing from a child's perspective.

Strangely enough, we have twin girls living next door to us and today is their third birthday, having been bought a wooden climbing frame by their mum and dad. Fortunately they put it up in their garden yesterday, and the girls had a whale of a time. Today, of course, a different story, as it is bucketing it down;-)

Your lovely poem, very much enjoyed.

Tina

Thank you, Tina, again. By their third birthday, they so much more understand what is going on! The two-year old who I was with recently on her birthday, has twin 3-year old sisters and an older sister, who all enjoyed her birthday very much, especially as it was during half-term, but she was a bit puzzled and tired!
