With which of us would you bide,
until today? We who carried you here,
brave comrade – turn, on turn. Only
now, the constant tide would claim you
as its own. So then, drift…carry high
with the wind. Float...float...fly…
on the shamal – shifts these swirling,
drifting sands – bore you away. Blow,
blow...billowing; a spirit – shining,
silver shimmering.
In which ocean will the wind set you free –
let you gently down? Shall you know?
Or shall you breathe a rarer air – meld
as one with this eternal, ongoing explosion;
to live to die, and be reborn as a leaf,
an ear of corn, a bird, or a butterfly? Yet,
for a while at least, to be part of this mighty,
mystic sea, with secrets told… so deep,
they shall be yours for the keeping
and forever ours, for the seeking.

This is fantastic writing Rigel, I really enjoyed it.
Yet,
for a while at least, to be part of this mighty,
mystic sea, with secrets told… so deep,
they shall be yours for the keeping
and forever ours, for the seeking.
This made the hair on my neck stand on end - such poignient ending.

Hi Rigel,
I was really intriuged by this poem. Reading it
out loud to myself, it became very dramatic and
full of adventure.
Loved it!
Jenny.

Pleased you liked it.

So very poignant, Rigel, and it reminded me of the time I went to Mount Snowdon to scatter the ashes of of a dear friend. There was the most beautiful sunburst...
I have only been caught up in a shamal once, and that was when I was in the Middle East, some years ago now. Quite some wind, and quite frightening, what with all the sand swirling around and making daytime seem like night.
Thank you for posting this.

Beautiful, beautiful words here Rigel. It's simultaneously light and airy and weighty and real. Grounded reality and spirit world ethereality (is that a real word?). No matter another fabulous addition to your stable of thoroughbreds.
Rigel | July 7, 2012 - 11:43
Cheers, mate, and I can't see nowt wrong with 'ethereality'. If it's not a word, it should be;-)

Rigel,
I did it! I did it! I understood it. Coming back down to earth, I do always get your poems because they are so well written and I love them but I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to poetry so if you can reach me that says a lot about your talent.
