Out For Blood 24

from the ABC set OFB

Gregg opened the door marked “Courtroom”, he switched on the lights and entered with Jill following gingerly behind, she was still unsure as to how safe she actually was with Gregg. ‘How long did she have before he would get thirsty?’ she thought. ‘But right now, (even though Gregg was a Vampire) he was the only other person that had tried to help.’ She would have to take her chances.

Gregg suggested they go into the courtroom so they could decide their next move without Hal knowing about it. The courtroom was a similar size to the station room, it had two windows on the left and two more on the right. Down the centre of the room was an aisle, either side of the aisle had six long wooden benches facing a raised platform on the centre of the far wall.

To the right of this as you looked on was a small boxed area containing a single seat, (the witness box) to the right of that were four more wooden benches under the windows, (seats for the jury). To the left of the platform was a door marked ‘Private’ and unlike the concrete floor in the station room, the courtroom had a wooden floor.

Jill walked onto the raised platform and sat herself in the Judges chair. Gregg sat on the front bench on the left facing her. ‘Right, our next move will be to get out of this place before the rain stops.’ he said.

‘We’re not going anywhere without Vicky.’ Said Jill.
‘I wasn’t thinking of leaving her here.'
‘Just making sure. So, what’s our next move then… Bat-man?’ she laughed.

Gregg narrowed his eyes. ‘That, was not funny, not funny at all!’
Jill stood. ‘What, you object?’
‘Can you be serious for one minute?’ he held up a finger. ‘For just one minute?’
‘Sorry, I couldn’t resist it.’ She said.
‘Okay, first off we need to look around this place, see what we can find.’

Jill looked at the only other door in the room then back at Gregg. ‘Gee detective,’ she said in cartoon speak. ‘Where do you think we should start?’

Gregg ignored her remark and walked over to the door marked ‘Private’ he tried the handle but it was locked, he tried to force it but it wouldn’t give. ‘Go out to the patrol car, see if you can find something to get this door open.’ He said.
Jill frowned. ‘What, me go out in that rain… are you kidding?’

Gregg was just about to protest his position with the rain when Jill raised her hands. ‘I’m going, I’m going.’ She said.

Gregg had to smile and admit to himself that he liked Jills’ sense of humour, especially under the current circumstances. Jill left the courtroom and in the station room Vicky was still lying on the floor and Hal was now sat on the bench. She walked around the side of their cell to check on Vicky, her chest was still rising and falling, which was a good sign.

Hal turned his head to Jill. ‘You aint leavin’ here,’ he drawled. ‘You do know that?’
Jill looked up from Vicky. ‘Oh yes we are, and we’ll be coming back with anyone who’ll listen to us. So you can kiss your sorry ass good-bye!’ At that she took the keys from the desk and went to go out to the patrol car.

When Jill opened the station room door it was snatched from her grip and slammed against the door-stop. The wind and rain rushed past the door sounding as though a hurricane had hit town. Stepping out Jill had to hold on to the door frame to stay on her feet, and within a matter of seconds she was soaked through. She squinted trying to keep the rain from her eyes which made seeing clearly almost impossible, at the same time she hoped no one from the town could see her.

She held on to the bars that were over the windows until she was level with a wooden pillar that held up a rather rickety porch-type roof, then she pushed off the bars just managing to get hold of it. Jill reached out and gripped the cars rear door handle.

Staying as close to the car as she could to cut down wind resistance Jill slid herself over the body of the vehicle, the driving rain was now looking almost horizontal. Fumbling with the keys until she found the right one, Jill opened the trunk. She held up its lid with her left hand as the power of the wind would have blown it shut otherwise. With her right hand she felt around inside the trunk, Jill found a small satchel which for some reason she decided to take and then she located a crow-bar.

Now with her foraging trip successful she had to get back inside. Again she slithered over the body of the car, but this time she was facing the wind and found it hard to breathe. She used the crow-bar to hold onto the wooden post and pulled herself into it. Again with the crow-bar she hooked the bars of the window and pulled once more. She managed to get in the door and with some effort closed it after her.

Once inside and breathless she brushed down her hair with her hands and pulled her T-shirt straight. Checking again on Vicky and cheerful Hal who was still sat on the bench she went back into the courtroom.

She saw Gregg still trying to force open the door. ‘Here, try this.’ she said holding out the crow-bar.
Gregg smiled when he saw her. ‘You look... wet!’ he announced, his smile growing bigger.
Jill eyes narrowed.‘Why are you smiling?’
Gregg nodded and lowered his eyes to her chest. Jill looked down at the now totally see-through T-shirt she was wearing, and then she saw her nipples, they were protruding like organ stops.

Her face flushed and she threw the crow-bar and satchel to the floor and folded her arms quickly over her breasts. Gregg took off his jacket and passed it to her, she turned away to put it on then turned back to face him.
‘So,’ she said nonchalantly, trying to compose herself. ‘Lets get this door open shall we.’

Gregg bent to pick up the crow-bar and dropped it again burning his hand on the rain that had hit it. ‘Fuck, that was hot!’

Sighing heavily Jill rolled her eyes, then she picked it up and pushed its end between the door and the frame, after a couple of pushes and pulls the door cracked and then gave way. In front of them now was a narrow hallway, Gregg switched on the light and saw another door at the bottom on the right. When they reached the door the sign on it read.

‘Chambers’

Gregg froze to the spot.
Jill was stood behind him moving her hair from her eyes. ‘What’s wrong?’ she asked.
‘Celia Brontrose…’
‘Yeah, who’s she?’
‘Remember I told you I was following a lead? Well Celia Brontrose said I would probably find what I’m looking for in chambers. I thought she was talking about caves, or some kind of caverns.’

‘Well, are you going to open it?’ she said impatiently.

Gregg turned the handle on the door and opened it, immediately the stench of ammonia hit him and took his breath away. ‘Or Jesus.’ he said closing the door again.

Jill smelt it too and she covered her mouth to stop her from vomitting. ‘Oh my God!’ She said through her hand. She ran back down the short hall and into the courtroom where she wretched a couple of times but managed to hold it together.
