Larry and Brenda had set off along highway 60 and were now on the 45 heading down to Farmville. This would take them to the 460 and then to Lynchburg. The roads were very quiet, the blower was on blowing soft cool air into the car, the CD player Larry had fitted was low and playing ‘The Eagles’. Tequiela Sunrise had just given way to Hotel California, and the soft amber light from the dash gave Larrys’ face a warm glow.
Brenda opened the Thermos of strong sweet coffee and poured some then passed it to Larry. ‘You know what I think,’ she said pouring herself a cup. ‘I think we’ll get to Lynchburg, and find Gregg shacked up with this Celia Brontrose. And I’ll bet ten bucks he’ll claim he left his cell-phone in his car.’
‘You do know she’s eighty-seven?’ said Larry staring at the road ahead.
‘Seriously though,’ she said joking. ‘Would that really make a difference?’
‘Nah, more than likely not.'
Neither of them spoke for a minute, both contemplating the situation regarding their missing friend..
Brenda broke the silence. ‘Seriously seriously though, what do you think has happened to Gregg?’
‘Seriously seriously? I wish I knew Bren, Gregg’s never done this before.’ Larry finished his coffee and passed the empty cup to Brenda. ‘I do remember an incident once though, when Gregg did kinda go AWOL for a couple of days, he wouldn’t thank me for telling you about it though. He gets pretty embarrassed when I bring it up when there is only him and I in the room.’
‘Well I won’t tell him you told me!’
‘Promise?’
‘Cross my heart.’ And she did.
‘Okay, not long before you joined us Gregg and I were in the office and in walks this thirty-something leggy blond. Tall, curves in all the right places, tight fitting short red dress, and red chiffon scarf. Said her boyfriend was playing away from home and could we follow him for a few days. Well you know Gregg, he volunteered himself for the job before she’d even sat down.
‘The following night Gregg parks up outside her house, sees the guy leave and follows his car. After a while this guy drives into the red light area, pulls his car over at the kerb and Gregg watches this young girl in a short skirt climb in. Meanwhile Gregg is snapping away with the camera, then the guy drives off and Gregg again tails him for a couple of miles. The guy turns up this road parks up and they both get out and walk hand in hand into a park.
‘Gregg decides to get himself and his camera closer so he follows them. He hears them moving around but can’t see very much, so he goes back to the car and returns with a million candle flashlight. He gets back to where they are, puts the flashlight between his knees and switches it on. Well the whole parks practically illuminated and Gregg snaps away merrilly.
'Thing was there were at least fifteen couples caught in the beam with the blonds boyfriend smack bang in the centre, his hands and feet were bound and he was gagged and bent over a park bench. His passenger was a teenaged boy, who’d hitched up his skirt and was banging the arse of the boyfriend.
'When the blond sees the pictures she obviously goes ape and chucks him out of the house.’
‘And so she should the dirty little pervert.’ Said Brenda caustically.
‘No, but that’s not the end of the story. A couple of weeks later the same blond calls Gregg up and asks if he would like to go out for dinner with her as a kind of thank you. Well Gregg being Gregg how could he say no? So, the following Friday night I offered to drop Gregg off at the designated place and time.
‘And that was the last I saw or heard of him for the next two days, come Monday morning I expected him to come into the office as usual. By lunchtime there was still no word, I called his cell-phone it was switched off, I called everyone we know, no one had heard from Gregg since Friday afternoon.
'So I pulled the file we had on the blond and copied her address down then drove down there. It was an apartment block in Bellwood, about forty-minutes drive. I got into the block through the underground carpark and made my way to her apartment. I knocked a couple of times but got no answer.
‘Then I pressed my ear against the door and heard a very faint noise, couldn’t make it out at first so I knocked again and listened. It sounded like someone was shouting, but from far off. I decided I had no choice but to force my way in. After I got inside I heard the noise a lot clearer, and it was someone shouting for help. So I pulled out my gun and kicked open a bedroom door. Now this is the bit no one is supposed to know.’
Brenda crossed her heart once more and made a zipping motion across her lips.
Larry smiled at the thought of what was coming next. ‘So, I kick open the door and rush in with my gun out in front of me, and there was Gregg, face down shackled to a bed, totally naked, a gag with a ball in his mouth and his gun in his hand.’ Larry couldn’t help but laugh.
Brenda was curious. ‘So what was the deal?’
‘Well, the blond asked Gregg if he wouldn’t mind a bit of bondage, Gregg said he “reluctantly” agreed. So after stripping him off and shackling him to the bed then gagging Gregg, the blond goes into the bathroom to undress. Only when she comes out, she is a he, and he has an impressive… piece of equipment to say the least.
'So Gregg starts to struggle as the blond moves around back. Luckily for Gregg he put his jacket on the bedstead, and he never goes anywhere without his gun. He managed to retrieve it from his jacket and when the blond saw it he/she panicked and ran out of the room screaming, a couple of minutes pass and Gregg hears the front door slam shut, two days later I’m the next person he sees.’
‘So why didn’t he fire his gun into the wall and have someone call the cops?’
‘I asked that very same question, and he said… “No way was I being found by the Richmond P.D. I know em all, and they aint seeing me like this!”. Oh, and the chiffon scarf, that was hiding his larynx.’ Larry touched his throat.
Brenda laughed and so did Larry, a comfortable air seemed to sorround them which Brenda liked very much. It was about time Larry relaxed in her company.

Hahahaha... There'd be no way I'd say anything to anyone either.
Excellent and a great aside from the main story.

a good 'yarn' and the scene setting at the beginning is excellent - it really drew me in. Margot
