Out For Blood 30

from the ABC set OFB

It was young Billy Fisher who had barged into the station room; Jill knew him only by the clothes he was wearing, and what was left of his pineapple hair-do. Most of his face had been eaten away by the rain, his eyes were still in their sockets but his lids had gone. His right ear was on the side of his neck near his shoulder, there was a hole where his nose should have been, and his brilliant white teeth were visible because the flesh from his jaw now dangled loosely above his chest.

He tried to speak but the only noises he could make were loud gurgling sounds and some high pitched cries. He stumbled in Greggs’ direction and Gregg acting on impulse raised his gun and fired one shot taking off the top half of young Billys’ head, Pineapple included.

With Billy leaving the door open the wind was loud, but the short sharp rapport of the gun was deafening. Gregg hoped none of the residents of Martinsville had heard it, however that was most unlikely. Again the thunder roared overhead. ‘If only Billy had come through the door one-minute later.’ He thought.

Hal stood when he saw young Billy enter the station room, and when Gregg had fired the gun he moved to the cell door. ‘Why’d ya do that?’ he shouted.

Jill widened her eyes as far as they would go, she was literally throwing looks at Vicky, willing her to get up and stick Hal with the cattle prod. Vicky not taking her eyes off Hal felt under the bench and located it. She stood, and with the prod outstretched lunged at Hal.

As big as he was, Hal turned on the spot like a seasoned ballerina and expertly took the cattle prod from Vicky. With his free hand he took her by the hair and lifted her two feet from the floor, again he spun on the spot putting Vicky between himself and Gregg. Gregg had his gun raised but was reluctant to pull the trigger as he could easily hit Vicky.

Vicky screamed trying to free herself from the grip that Hal had on her hair, her feet kicking out in all directions as she tried hopelessly to fight her way loose.

Hal pulled back the hand holding the cattle prod. ‘Oh yeah, something I forgot to mention, my adopted parents were French! Oeil pour oeil. Cette Billys’ vie pour la vie.’

He then looked Jill dead in the eye, and whilst he still held Vicky off the ground he thrust the cattle prod upward into her back and it exited through her upper chest. Vicky immediately spewed blood and Hal held her there until her bodily spasms’ ceased.

Jill screamed Vickys’ name and Gregg fired two shots, one hitting Vicky in her left shoulder the other hitting Hal in his left cheek. He dropped Vickys’ body and turned away holding his hand over his face, Gregg didn’t care now if anyone had heard the shots, he moved to the front of the cell and putting his arm right through the bars he fired again.

This shot hit Hal on the side of his head just above his left ear, his brain and skull fragments sprayed the cell wall behind, and he fell motionless to the floor beside Vicky.

Jill grabbed for the bunch of keys and unlocking the cell she knelt beside her friends lifeless body, lifting Vickys’ head onto her knees she brushed the hair from her face. As she cried over her she kept repeating how sorry she was, then closing Vicky's eye-lids she sobbed even harder.

Gregg checked Hal for signs of life, he had no idea if he would recover after sustaining such a head wound but wasn’t taking any chances. While he let Jill lament over Vicky's demise he took a broom from one corner of the station room and he used it to close the station door.

He then took Hals’ desk chair and kicked it into the other cell, he skirted around the open hatch catching one or two raindrops on his bare arms causing him to flinch. He put the broom end under the door and pushed it closed, standing on the chair he fastened the bolts to hold it shut and then moved the chair to one side.

He returned to the other cell and took hold of Hals’ feet; tucking them under his arms Gregg walked backward out of the cell leaving a trail of blood and bits as he went. He managed to drag Hals’ heavy body precisely where he needed it to be, then taking the keys out of the cell door he shackled him to the floor.

Picking up the broom and putting the chair between Hals’ legs he stood on it once more, and holding the hatch shut he unfastened the bolts. Jumping back down from the chair he let the hatch fall open and the rain began to fall on Hal.

Gregg watched and waited, and then waited some more, but nothing seemed to happen to Hal when the rain hit him. ‘Perhaps he wasn’t one of them!’ He thought. He threw the keys onto the desk and went back to Jill; crouching down beside her he put his right hand on her left shoulder.

Jill placed Vickys’ head softly down and she stood slowly, she wiped her eyes with the heel of each hand and sniffed a runny nose.

‘Jill, I have to ask…’ said Gregg. ‘What Hal said just before he…’ Gregg stopped himself.
