Sighing heavily Jill took the car keys from the desk and grudgingly once more she opened the station room door and began yet another battle with the elements. The wind and rain had not let up one iota; in fact it looked and sounded worse than ever. She struggled against the storm and managed to get to the drivers door looking in all directions as she did so, just in case there were people about, although she knew that was highly unlikely.
It was measurably brighter than earlier but still dark enough for the street lights to be on, but there were only six of them visible, and they were further along the street. Jill got into the car and to her surprise the engine started first time. ‘Yes!’ She shouted.
She put it in drive and slowly applied pressure to the accelerator, but the car didn’t move. Again she pressed the accelerator, but the wheels just spun into ground. Jill got out to find they were buried over half of their depth in mud and water, she then returned to the station room feeling somewhat defeated.
‘Where’s the car?’ asked Gregg.
‘It’s stuck… the grounds too soft with all this rain.’
‘I thought you said you could drive?’
Jill slung the keys back onto the desk, and through the gaps in her wet rats’ tails she looked coldly at Gregg. ‘You’re quite welcome to give it a go yourself!’
‘I would… only I have this terrible allergy,’ he said feigning self pity.
‘The grounds too soft Gregg… accept it!’
‘Okay… but now we need a “Plan B”.’
Jill began to look around the station room while Gregg tried to come up with his “Plan B”. She was studying the map of Martinsville pinned to the notice board when something on it caught her eye.
What intrigued her was a thin black line that ran from the Town Hall all the way to the room with the door marked “Chambers”. She took it from the notice board and brought it over to Gregg. ‘What do you suppose this is?’ she said pointing to the line.
Gregg looked at it raising his shoulders. ‘Could be electrical cables, a gas main or—’
‘Or a tunnel Gregg!’ interrupted Jill.
Gregg moved his head back on his shoulders and narrowed his eyes. ‘You know… you could be right. But what would they need a tunnel for?’
Jill rolled her eyes to the ceiling because Gregg just couldn’t see it. ‘To get around when it rains… why else?’
Gregg thought back to the now open hatch in ‘Chambers’. ‘Oooh shit! That’s what that door is, it’s not a cellar at all… it’s the entrance to the tunnel. I gotta close and lock it!’ Gregg turned to leave the station room and Jill quickly followed.
‘You can’t go in there Jill.’ He said turning back to her.
‘Well I aint staying here on my own that’s for sure!’
Gregg raised his shoulders and turned away heading for the “Chambers” with Jill following closely behind. Half way through the courtroom they heard a noise coming from beyond the door marked “Private”.
Gregg pulled out his gun and ducked behind the witness box, he flapped his hand in a patting motion instructing Jill to conceal herself, but she had already slipped into one of the pews and was lay on the floor.
Zack walked into the courtroom muttering to himself about having to come to look for two of the Collective that should know better than to piss Ella off. As Zacks’ mind was elsewhere he didn’t see the damage Jill had done to the door when he walked into the courtroom.
Gregg watched as he went into the station room and quietly followed him in, Jill again wasn’t far behind. The first thing Zack noticed as he entered was the sound of rain hitting the floor, then he saw Hal and what might have been young Billy Fisher lying on top of him.
He then looked over into the adjoining cell, the blond that had been brought in earlier was lay there with a cattle-prod sticking out of her chest. But the dark haired one wasn’t there; she must have done all this and then escaped. He had seen enough, he needed to report his discovery to Ella.
Zack spun on one heel to find a gun pointing at him, only inches from his forehead.
‘Oooh fuck,’ he drawled slowly, and then letting his flashlight slip from his fingers he swallowed hard.

This is really good - you know it is - but one small point. I think that Jill would be far more upset by Vicky's death than she has shown so far. A little bit of hysteria wouldn't go amiss!

You know Tony, cross my heart and hope to die X. I was pondering on that very notion only today. But Vicky didn't confide in Jill about her virginity, so the cow can go piss in the wind if she thinks she's getting any sympathy written in.
Seriously though, I am going to add to the earlier pages from the time Vicky copped it, but it's a little late to change it now on ABC... (I'm whispering this next bit) especially now you have pointed it out!
And thank you for the cherries Tony.

Mark, another taut chapter. My wife still hasn't caught up on reading this but I'm sure she will enjoy it as much as I have when she does. Well done again, mate.

I've just logged into this, and didn't realise it was a chapter. I'm intrigued. I'll have to go back to the beginning and start reading during coffee breaks (that's whenever the rest of the staff think I'm working). I love a bit of horror, and this seems really good.
