This what they teach you;
compartmentalisation (memorise this word)
cut out each emotion, place in a labled box
catergorise, cross reference
guilt; see also anger
see also love, fear
You learn how to reality check;
'not hugging you doesn't mean he doesn't love you'
'fucking you doesn't mean he loves you'
They give you mantras;
'I am a good person' and
'I am a strong person'
and you say them to yourself
in the mirror, making eye contact
like they told you
You keep a diary of dreams;
A glossary of symbols
flying equals freedom
drowning equals re-birth
you make notes of your progress
You know when you're cured;
When music seagues once again, into the background
when you can do the maths, the pros and cons
the blacks and whites
when you can command your heart
beat steady, pump blood, play dead
When all your poetry is re-arranged
into a text book.

Well, cherries are hard to earn, but this poem deserves one - just loved it - this is exactly the kind of poetry which I love to read - you have a real talent.

I agree with that. Pure brilliance, shoe.

Shoe, well done. There is a steady and yet inexorable building and development of the theme and feeling throughout the piece. It's wonderful how the poetry conveys this measured incremental communication and this device juxtaposed with the ideas in the poem operates as a mirror to the sentiments and as a cipher for our appreciation of the whole thing. Absolutely excellent submission.

Great ending, and thankfully there are no rules in writing poetry.

Great POD pick - more great poetry. :-)

This piece just oozes empathy - they say the difference between genius and madness is not very big, this poem puts this notion on a smaller, personalised playing field.
The last line is fantastic.
great stuff Shirley xxx

"When all your poetry is re-arranged

This piece has blown my brain into bits. It's pure amazingness. Very strong.

Just a question - if I may... do you think it's possible to reach enlightenment if you've skipped the labelling and textbook process?
Great writing :-)

Thanks Maggie,
Hi Shannon, imperative that you do, I should think.

Touche shoe... the stuff dreams are made of has made my life very intriguing for me and those textbooks have created some of the ideas that I've been able to play with, argue, dispute, concur and everything else with :-) Keep well. Shannan
