I have no need for a Valentines card
what poetic thing would you say
that you don't already,
in an everyday way?
Don't want to sit at opposites
across a glowing table,
with nothing new to talk about
except perhaps, we should go out
more often.
Instead I'll take the cup of tea
before the 6 o'clock alarm.
Offer me the ice cool 1664,
when I'm in a steaming bath
trying to get warm.
I'll take the sudden trip
- down the Atlantic Highway-
on a bleak november afternoon,
to watch the breakers, count the gulls,
your hand in mine to keep it warm.

Really like this, Shirley and better late than never, as they say;-) Certainly 'my cup of tea' this one.

Love that last stanza, Shirley and that image of the 'glowing table' is one that will stick with me for a long while ;) Well done!

Yes, anything with November in it is fine by me. It's such an under-rated but evocative month - all you need to do is have that and 'Atlantic' in the same sentence and the reader is instantly there (or at least I am). Wonderful.
