'Study in Blue'

from the ABC set Silver Spun Sand Poems

It sizzles in Soho tonight...
and I am the strip joints,

the taxis and the tourists...
the kerb-crawler and the pigs,

the bouncers, and the pimps...
And the hand-job girls

are already on the take;
wet pavements are steaming.

Yet, right this minute, nothing
can come between me

and this plate of soggy chips...
my sketch-pad and pencil,

and the sweet sting of rain
on her naked shoulder.

Hi Tina,

I had to think about this connection between the
title and the poem, I'm so naive, but now I have
it! I think it's brilliant.

Really original.

Jenny.

Hello there, Jenny;-) As for the title, it was inspired by Henri Matisse's 'Study in Blue'. A truly beautiful painting of the female form.

Pleased you enjoyed and many thanks for commenting. Speaking of 'original' I wouldn't mind having the the original painting...me and at least ten million others, I shouldn't wonder;-)

Yes, it is, isn't it Pia? Once seen, never forgotten, most certainly.

This piece reads like a painting itself, I could imagine all the details you describe. Will take a trip to Google for 'Study in Blue'

Thanks, maggy;-) Good luck on the Googling, and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Hi Tina, really like this. Love the feeling of being immersed in your surroundings. 'the sweet sting of rain on her naked shoulder' only an artist would get a sense of that image. The whole thing is, strangely, quite beautiful I think. Mike
