There’s a place I once knew called Oyster Bay –
I went there one day in my mind,
feeling lost, yet somehow it found me
between somewhere and nowhere in time.
We could drift on our dreams down to Oyster Bay
where the sea paints a picture of dawn
with a palette of colours it took from the sky
and we’ll watch as a new day is born.
As the noon-tide wanes, we’ll comb the shore
sifting strands of a mermaid’s curls;
at the heart of a shiny, black-diamond,
find our destiny wrapped in a pearl.
There’s a sigh-soft breeze above Oyster Bay
where the water’s as warm as the sand is
and we’ll dive with the dolphins under the sea
till we find the lost world of Atlantis;
yet, sometimes the sea around Oyster Bay
dons a mantle of gossamer grey
and a hundred white stallions race with the wind
which coquettishly turns them to spray.
So, come – take my hand down to Oyster Bay
where the sea coyly flirts with the shore
enticing her enter his emerald embrace
lest the tide take her back once more.
When I lie in your arms above Oyster Bay
at the cove where the sand dunes are,
we’ll dip and we’ll dive with gulls as they climb
till they carry us up to our star...
to laze, side-by-side, in the after-glow
of a sun that is lingering yet, who sees
the moon changing her white robes for silver
and concedes night’s stage soon will be set.
There’s a place I once knew called Oyster Bay
where the ocean reflects heaven’s treasures,
we could straddle the moon as it sails on the sea
and come home when it’s half-past forever.

Hi Tina,
what an amazing place Oyster Bay sounds, the picture
you conjure up, is somewhere I would love to be.
The whole poem is so beautifully written, I really
love it.
Thankyou for this slice of heaven.

This is just so magnificently beautiful.
Give me some? Have you been there.Under water
divers see it all,don't they.
I would love to see it in a book for the
future,it is the author telling it,with colours
love and beauty,my mouth breathing in every wonderful
word and lines.Creation and heavenly natures.
This is golden cracker 2011.Tip Top.
Have a good week-end

I take it you like this one, Julie;-) I wrote it at a particularly difficult time in my life, as a form of escapism. I even painted a picture of it, which still hangs in my living room today.
So pleased it captured your imagination too.
Tina xx (and have a good weekend yourself)

'An old fisherman's lullaby' - hey, I like that, Magic;-) and in my head, I have already put it to a tune. Shall now attempt to transfer it to my piano. I would want it to sound as a 'lullaby', but with my playing, there is fat-chance of that!
Glad you liked it;-) And thanks so much for your lovely comment.
