Lying on my bed
In the dark
I have no fear
For I welcome
The dark
The black velvet
Envelopes me
Cocoons me
Soothes me
No ghosts, demons
Nor banshees’
In the still of the night
Permeate my darkness
For I’m not religious
I came from the dark
And I will leave
In the dark.

I wish I read this when I was younger and afraid of the dark that you have managed to portray as soothing and safe in this beautiful poem. The ending is particular is stunning.

Whew, at last a comment, I was thinking I must be doing something wrong here. I too was afraid of the dark when younger, but then it is as natural as light, and has it's own beauty. Thanks again for your comment.

The dark is much maligned, I blame Christians! I have been thinking of writing a poem about the dark for the last few days, and here you have gone and beaten me to it! lovely poem, :}

Thks Shoe, such kind words from a poet whose writing I'm in awe of, don't blame the Christians, blame Thomas Edison....
