Poetry Monthly

Poetry-wise we saw a gallery of colourful artist-inspired pieces in June: a vibrant response. As I post this, I know all of us are thinking of Bee and her family. Bee’s contribution to ABCTales was immeasurable: her time for others, her consummate encouragement, that bold sense of humour that glimmered in all her work and feedback. First up this month is one of my favourite poems written by Bee:

A sensual lullaby for grown-ups. Spirited and soothing:

Ed Crane conveys all the bloom of pregnancy but not as it seems:

Noo’s brilliant ode to a woman’s (eternal) search for sleep:

I’ll hand you over now to the talented Mr Blackjack Davey to bring magic to July:
'This months' brief is enchantment, a theme that seems particularly suited to the ballad, it might even be a pseudo medieval reimagining as in the poetry of John Keats.
Enchantment can be many things but we are looking for a moment of change when the world is transformed from the drab and everyday into a place of supercharged symbols where everything connects and points to something else--- inert objects become animate.  Think of a baby waving goodbye to her bath water. The symbolic world turns us back into a proper narrative with us in the centre.
The stepping off point might be love, smart drugs, a terrific risotto, cleansing violence... my favourite examples are the poems of Emily Dickinson, Rosetti's Goblin Market (about the cold turkey from the symbolic world), Walter de la Mare's The Listeners  and Wallace Stevens A Rabbit as King of the Ghost.'

See you in August and thanks for your continued creations.
