Famine

Forgive me Lord,
I’d speak a word
And ask the question; why?
You send white men
With cameras
To watch our children die
They promise that
These pictures
Will bring to me relief
From those who dare
To really care
And share with me my grief
My strength is all
But gone now
I’ve walked three days non stop
Of food I have
Seen nothing
Of water, scarce a drop
I gave you all
I had to give
So sure that it was true.
Where are your loaves
And fishes now?
‘Suffer little children too..’
Fifteen miles I
Carried her
We married in your church
We joined in hope
One knot, one rope
Once silk but now a birch
What once you blessed
You now arrest
Lies broken, tossed aside
Is this our bliss?
No strength to kiss
All waste? Just words? All lies?
