Salt (3rd January, 2011, 1.05aam)
You linger where you’re not welcome,
hovering at the edge of my conscience,
prodding my memory
when I forget you;
could you bear to disappear?
How long until the bruises fade?
My heart beats with the broken drum of defeat
and I still can’t let go
of the love and the hate and everything
that lies between.
There is no past of me you don’t inhabit;
the future waits, impatient, but your face,
still in the photographs, digitalised
happiness that could not last,
haunts, an unwanted ghost.
I wait for your antithesis. I cannot be free
until I meet my new nemesis,
until I want to taste
the salt of his sweat
and forget, and forget, and forget…

"there is no past of me" - did you mean part? I suppose both words would work
