Moving Day

Time to pack up –
moving on
as one does...
The brooch
you often wore,
till it broke...
aeons ago...
the note
you wrote
inviting me
to dinner;
theatre tickets
for two
when we saw
Noel Gordon
in ‘Call me Madam’.
The crow’s feather
we found
on Dunstable Downs...
the pebble
that looked like
a heart;
a momentum
of Chesil Beach...
The Champagne cork
from our 25th ...
the safety pin
I just happened to have
when your bra snapped
on a five-mile
charity run we did.
A pressed rose petal –
the last one left
of many you’d kept
in your bible
as a kid...
and a sprig
of dried,
wild thyme
from the place
where, now,
you lay at peace.
All these things
to be packed away
in a box...until
some day
I’ll open it up –
sort it over, again...
moving on
as one does, or...
so we kid ourselves.
