A is for Aardvark –

with a nose like a pig
(though longer);
it’s stronger,
and able to dig;
its burrow is made
at speeds that exceed
six men who are digging
at speed with a spade.
Has a tail like a rat,
but ears like a donkey –
it can hold them quite wonkey
(underground they fold flat).
Its olfactory sense
is very intense;
its claws make attacks
on termite nests look
so simple – their walls
would challenge a pick-axe –
not easy to crack.
With a swipe and a lick,
ants, termites will stick
to the one foot long tongue –
and this it can roll,
to poke in a hole.
Its teeth are unique,
while its sensitive nose
is guarded by bristles
and its nostrils can close
when digging. No freak:
but such odd, funny creatures
with remarkable features!

This was very good and children would love it.
I'd like to see your take on the duck billed platypus, or any other amusing creature for that matter.

Hi Rhiannon,
Hi Rhiannon,
this poem put a great big smile on my face.
I can just see those little faces lighting up when reading this poem.
Educational in a light hearted way.
Very much enjoyed.
Jenny.
