In the hollow
By seafret
- 1755 reads
There are four walls somewhere to hold me.
Four walls, slate floor
Dappled light
Salt air.
Four walls to scaffold me
As I gently fall apart and rebuild,
Remade from spirals, songs, waves, and things grown from the garden.
(Secret, walled, sunny, ripe, just outside.)
Four walls, pictures made by me,
I'll hang herbs and old roses over the lintels
Bay and rowan around the porch.
On the rug by the stove,
A cat and shaggy dog.
What made me want these walls
Is the story of my years
And how they make me feel
Right now,
In the vastness of a different land.
(In the hollow of his hand.)

Really good
This is tidy and full of feeling. Should it actually be 'A.cat' at the end of the middle stanza, is that the cat's name?
