If we do because we can,
is it, as we claim, a tact to thwart
the threat of heinous acts
or is it that we plot to stop
the victims desperate to escape
the devastation
of war slashed, sickened
nations where human blood
is currency for oil?

thwart is a good word, but
thwart is a good word, but where do we start? Refugees they're now the bogeys. Compassion, don't let it take root. Bomb the bastards - that's understood.

When compassion is abused by some, those in real need suffer. Like when 'Good Samaritans' stopping at supposed road accidents are attacked, and they get wary of 'Wolf!' cries. (I take it this is what is on your mind here?) (is it meant to be 'tactic' in the 2nd line?) Rhiannon

The 'leaders' lead...
to the doom and destruction of the others...
thereby profiting... which seems to be the bottom line nowadays...
Good poem... poignant

I am reminded of the message in my last poem (deleted)
“The End of the World is Nigh. Yesterday’s
madmen are sane. What is right challenges
imagination. Psychopaths, thieves, cowards
and paranoid-schizophrenics lead us.”
What I wrote might be a bit exggerated, but the current combination of self-interest, greed, fanaticism and cowardiss/indecisiveness certainly seem to be leading to a perfect storm.
You ask some very pertinate questions, Bee. Sadly we don't seem to have an answer.
