Desperate Invitation

Ginny, staggered. The bus lurched.
“Dark already. I hate nights.”
“Good evening,” offered the driver.
“Good evening!” “What’s good about it?”
She ambled, her sight failing, avoiding dog dirt, kicking a beer can making her wobble.
“Joe would be upset if he could see me.”
“To think I’ve come to this at my time of life!”
Ginny stopped at number two, sighing, then staggered up her path.
Turning the key she fidgeted for the light unsuccessfully.
The room lit up with faces of family past. Her beloved Joe beckoned her to join him.
She could no longer resist his invitation.
