Overgraduate
By queen beatle
- 844 reads
In amongst the browning pears
And teabags drowned in colonies
Of mugs, I make my nest
Muffling the mordant sun
The kindly hum of giants' music
Slows the day's arrest.
Underneath my windowledge
The sea-sore student tribes ascend
Those ever-steeper steps
And I remember clambering
In grinning knots towards the top
Alone but for the rest.
Self-indulgent, self-obsessed
We co-collided
Never co-possessed.

I have such a vivid picture of this - those first two verses are so wonderfully descriptive. The rest of the poem speaks of reflection and memory, I imagine a wry smile. This one really struck a chord.

A very expressive poem with an eye-catching title and interpolated with subtle puns and word play.
Flowing and rhythmic verses and an excellent final stanza. I liked it.
Best, Luigi,
