The Pace of Life-2020
The pace is slowing down, stopping dead
And most folk shop online instead
Spend-spend-spending as much as they can
Forgetting the Lockdown, being their plan.
The High Street’s gone, its breathed its last
Career consumers, their day gone past
Seagulls parade on the city square
The hum of traffic,no longer there.
Shops are closed with furloughed staff
Not sure whether to cry or to laugh
The streets are deserted, of people bereft,
No chat nor gossip, just silence left.
No-one's rushing, there's nobody there
We all live indoors, with free time to spare
Watching our box sets and eating too much
Texting and messaging, keeping in touch
No weekends or parties, there's no more fun
All seven days, seem to merge into one
Young and old people are having nights in
Virtual parties , the next big thing?
Mirror images are rapidly ageing
Living our lives, in the time of contagion
We live out our days in these uncertain times
Unable to travel to our holiday climes.
What do we do in these times of trouble?
Passing our days, as if in a bubble?
Socially distancing, the name of the game,
Two metres apart, stay safe and sane.

Something's gone a bit wrong with this poem Mark. I think maybe it needs reposting
