Dusk
By Jane Hyphen
- 2935 reads
The girl with the softest edges
Who summons the stars
And the scent of the rose
Who unburdens the sun,
scattering its fiery embers
Her name is Dusk
She rustles the bright-eyed creatures
Dark hair falling down down down
In a gown of woad taffeta
She sings to grow the shadows
A smile to melt the cold stare
of all the hardest days
Stirring whispers from her mouth,
call out the silent flyers
She makes black holes of the gardens
Tunes the trill strings of the late bird
She closes the sundrops
And cools the parched loam
Her sermon is always of endings
As she casts the emerging spirits
She doesn’t fear the hidden worlds
or the transience of her time
As her presence gently hazes
The world is now in darkness

An ode to twilight. You bring
An ode to twilight. You bring out so many views of the gentle changes. Years ago when we moved into the country I suddenly realised these flitting flyers in the dusk weren't late flying birds! Rhiannon

Hi Jane,
Hi Jane,
this is such an enchanting poem. I think it's one of my favourites. I just love how you've woven each description with lots of love.
Beautiful and one I will come back to read again and again.
Jenny.

One of my favourite things is watching a summer evening turn to dusk. This is so beautiful and will be a lovely thing to turn to when, as today, the summer evening is one of belting rain and clouds!

I have no idea why I forgot
I have no idea why I forgot to leave a comment after reading it yesterday - so glad it was chosen for golden cherries. Dusk at this time of year can be so magical (when not tipping it down)

"The girl with the softest
"The girl with the softest edges
Who summons the stars.."
The personification of "dusk".
So many inspired, beautiful lines in this like:
"Her sermon is always of endings"
Just gorgeous.

Special time of day
Great words to suit this special time of day. Calming moments.
I really liked your
A smile to melt the cold stare
of all the hardest days
as that's exactly how the dusk has made me feel down the years.
