HYSTERIA

HYSTERIA IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN ONE OF MANS MOST TRAGIC ILLS. I COULDN'T THINK OF A BETTER EXAMPLE THAN LAST WEEK WHEN, AT 11.30PM, A BUNCH OF WANKERS BEGAN TO LET OFF FIREWORKS IN A PLAYING FIELD NEAR MY ESTATE, AND CHANT "ENGERLURND," DEAD-LEGGING IT ABIOUT THE ESTATE, BARE CHESTED, DRUNK, AND DRAPED WITH ST.GEORGIES FLAGS...AND THAT WAS THE JUST GIRLS.

NASTY, NASTY, FALSE PATRIOTIC, HYSTERIC, CHEESY, EMBARRASSING NONSENSE.

THEY-WON-1-NIL TO PARAGUAY! THE WINNING GOAL WAS -AN-OWN GOAL!! THEY PLAYED TERRIBLY

NO WONDER WE HAVE A BUNCH OF WET WILLIES FOR A FOOTBALL TEAM WHEN THEY GET IDOLISED FOR PLAYING AWFULLY. ARE WE EVER GONNA DEMAND RESULTS??! ARE WE EVER GONNA COMMENCE A SELECTIVE BREEDING PROGRAM? PLEASE!?

IT'S FLAG DASH NIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT. CLOSING TIME - SEE HOW MANY CAR FLAGS YOU CAN MAKE IT HOME WITH! WINNER GETS TO GRIMACE.

Maybe if you spelt it programme? I am surrounded by St. George flags in scum city and I do feel slightly ill. There's always a hint of 'my country right or wrong' which is about as intelligent as 'my mother drunk or sober'. I'm as Anglo-Saxon as you can get, but I would prefer to lose playing really well, than playing as we did the other day and win. And Brazil were shite tonight.

ARE WE EVER GONNA COMMENCE A SELECTIVE BREEDING PROGRAM? You'd better start hoping it never happens unless you want your bloodline to become extinct.

Selective breeding programme sounds like a damn good idea to me...and who the hell cares how we win as long as we do. I watched the match on Saturday at Silverstone on the big screen with about 40,000 other people, a good percentage who, like Yan and others seem to think they could do better than the professional players. Tell me, has Sven (or any of the premiership managers) been ringing your doorbell to sign you up lately? No? Thought not!
oh how lovely i thought this site was a gentile and literate site for eloquent and tragic couplets, but we can slag off Sven as well? i know footie gets a bit ott but it's an adequate surrogate for war isn't it? all that nationalism without invading anyone..
"without invading anyone" Try telling that to the citizens of Nuremburg tonight

I think Jens Lehman the German and Arsenal goalkeeper hit the nail on the head, when he said that England freeze at important moments, i.e. major tournaments. Think Tim Henman, freezing at Wimbledon, one of the best serve/volleyers at the time and ranked at no. 4 in the world, could never get beyond the semis. He should also have won many more tournaments around the world with his talents. If England play as woeffully as they did last Saturday, we'll go out at the first knockout stage. I just hope I'm proved wrong.

Talking of England freezing at important moments - shame Martin Johnson doesn't play football... (mind you, he'd keep forgetting to do the rolling over in agony in the penalty box thing).
Poland showed improvement last night. I was quite miffed for them. Even though Germany were the better side and deserved to win it seemed quite tragic to lose in the 91st minute. Their goalkeeper was an absolute hero and spent the last ten minutes of the match making save after save...

It's the pressure. There is probably more pressure on an England side to win than any other (Spain comes close), and they always start a bit flaky. Once they get into the swing of it they play better, although they do tend to get spooked easy. Dumb optimist and biannual football fan that I am, I have every confidence. How badly did they really do on Saturday, they dominated the first half then spent the second with their backs to the wall but still didn't let anything in. They might have been just holding on, but they *did* hold on. To my mind, only Argentina looked significantly stronger this week. Then again, I bet you won't see a losing TnT side coming off and complaining it was too cold.

"I think Jens Lehman the German and Arsenal goalkeeper hit the nail on the head, when he said that England freeze at important moments" Yes, a cutting and insightful comment from the man who got himself sent off in the Champions League final.

A comment on Alistair Cambell's World Cup Blog: "Alistair, if Iran find themselves behind at half time, do you think they'll be able to launch a counterstrike within 45 minutes?" made me giggle

I think we already have a selective breeding programme. How else do you explain Rooney?
These weak metatarsals are all Margaret Thatcher's fault you know
