Would you be offended?

I've just bought a birthday card for a really good friend from Tesco's.

It's got stars and circles exploding on the front in a frenzy of colour and excitement. They seem to be hurtling madly towards you at great speed, yet somehow remain contained within the modest dimensions of the card.

There's something insanely hypnotic about the fire and energy and demented chaos they transmit to the observer, and indeed draw out of the observer. As I gaze at this fantastic scene I feel as if the life force itself is being sucked out of my soul and yet I somehow feel renewed as well.

Which is not bad for 27p, and part of the Tesco value range.

Do you think my friend would be offended?

Would he see it as I see it, or just think crap card?

Crap card, probably. {{{_"P"_}}} ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com - latest... Review of "Casino Royale")

bruce make sure you take off the price xxx
if it says "tesco value birthday card" on the back you may be in trouble

... or make your own with such clear and obvious devotion to your friend's needs and idiocyncracies that he/she will be delighted at the time, effort and frenzy you have put into it. Or buy him/her a large drink and hand over the Tesco's thing - then nick it back whilst you are in the pub - and they'll wake up the next morning feeling very bad that they've left your card behind in the pub - and they'll feel indebted to you for life.
http://www.davidbreslin.f2s.com/silly/for_B3ta_tesco_value_valentine_car... he he he actually, the best thing about cards is what's written inside. If I were the recipient, I would be more pleased knowing my friend had spend 27p instead of £2.80 and could go and have a pint with the saving. jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Thanks for the vote of confidence Peps. I've sent it now Tony, so it's too late to follow your strategies I'm afraid. Shall remember for next time. Appreciate the tips. I've removed the price Fish - at least I think I have - so should be OK. But as Maddan points out there was a reference to Tesco's on the back though as far as I can recall it didn't use the 'V' word. I have to say it was a little more imaginative than the Valentine's card Jude. What a fantastic item that was. Denver I assume you mean 20p. Where do you think I get that kind of money from? To be fair, while the paper was a bit cheap and the design a bit superficial, the inside message did say: "Have a great day". Which I feel lifts it into the 36p bracket.
Offended? Bruce, whatever it is that's causing this effect in you, I want. Right now! If it's just the card, send it to me. (My birthday isn't until late January, but I can't wait for that demented energy and chaos)

It's the thought that counts, Bruce. Are you sure the "Have a great day" didn't have a sarcastic tone? {{{_"P"_}}} ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com - latest... Review of "Casino Royale")

I'll see if I can dig another one out for you Mississippi. It may not be the card so much as some kind of mental breakdown occurring in the purchaser. The thought is what I'm worried about Pepsoid. What sort of thought goes into a 27p card from the Tesco value range. You could be right about the sarcasm. I hadn't thought about that.
I think if I made 27p cards for Tesco's for a living, I'd be likely to imply a sarcastic tone... ...but I'm sure you can counteract such vibes with your overwhelming positivity, Mr B! :-))) {{{_"P"_}}} ...
