Age Of Elegance

Writing this in bright green ink,
In a hope of things to come
When fading eyesight, skin and stockings
Wrinkle in the sun.
I don't want the silent pain,
Bedpans, bed baths, oral care,
Daytime television on,
Weekly trips to 'do my hair'
Nursing staff with tired smile
Listening to my tale
Of how the night time terror comes
Each evening without fail.
I want- - - -
A Zimmer frame in racing green,
Cardigan cuffs turned back,
Bright pink leather trousers
And a see through plastic mac.
You and I will race each other
Round the duck pond twice,
Full pelt on towards the kiosk
To buy vanilla ice.
We'll ask for extra sprinkles
With crunchy nuts on mine,
It makes a change from the pap we're fed
When our teeth are drawn by time.
