Whole families fidget in soft seats

Blind trust, no questions, reverence
No eyebrow raised at meagre fayre
No movement, sound or breeze refresh
Just everyone solid, sitting there

An evening-in without stimulus
Apathy stretches for out of reach remote
The tension felt in stifling air
Sky TV and it's time to vote

Why can't they rise and switch it off?
Converse instead, exchanging views?
But it sentinel monitors in control
Temping you "?and after the news?"

Commanding presence, central place
Whole front room worships toward
The alter of the whole(y) family
Stops them thinking, getting board.
