It Went Like So

Today Humpty Dumpty sat on his wall
that Jill would be passing he had no idea at all
he gave her shy look and started to fall
and busted his gut on the floor of the hall
Jill could not help laughing, he was quite a sight
lying there crying, his bloomers all tight
she called the king's horses, summoned his men
to put the old egghead together again
Jill went a bit further down memory lane
caught up with king Cole sitting out in the rain
he saw her and invited her in for a pipe
she remembered what happened on last old years night
Sticks and stones may be breaking my bones
the stories you told Jack got him out on the dole
with wine in his head I sent him to bed
but he went through the window after Mary instead
and we all know how contrary Mary can be
she convinced him to climb up the Mulberry tree
she then saw her boy blue and what did she do
she left my Jack hanging saying toedle de do
Jill left king Cole crying out loud for his bowl
she thought he's a stinker but a merry old soul
one day I will cockle him and ring all his bells
today I'll fleece Wittington from all of his shells
To market to market to buy a fat pig
my Jacky and I will be dancing a jigg
come May day we'll have a good roll in the hay
my oh my I know just what people will say
Come blow on your trumpet drink up the corn
The man in the moon is yet to be born
And Mary your little lamb is as safe as can be
I served her with rosemary to Jacky and Me
