We are nothing like robots.
When we mop floors, all sorts of complex
emotions occur: what has our life become
and why do things move in circles
and this moment pretty much sums it up,
this pretty much says it all. An epiphany
– a sudden realisation about the universe,
perhaps – is just not going to happen to a robot.
A robot may know all about fractals, ratios,
patterns on leaves, cracked windows,
thread veins and find none of it
particularly astounding. We are known to forget
about the entire span of history.
A robot is always recalling the holocaust.
