“The Poet is the Meanest of all Liars”

Chris told me what he read in my poems-
the accurate deductions being, of course,
far more chilling than the misunderstandings.

Oh my open black heart is on the table before you!
Oh my idiot’s joy is a contagious shame!
Oh my love my love but I have no words and in so failing say too much!

Dogs and Birds bicker
and the clatter will ever fail to pollute my happy indifference-
better or worse the meanest of all liars,
but also the smilingest.
