At the Mini-Ranch
dark as silhouettes
miniature cows claim the title
‘Dexter’ as their heritage
snouts claiming space
in the pasture
and a harem of eight protected by
mini-bull—Kenny
wary of a regular-size version
at the next farm
having an eye for his ladies.
Kenny debates the issue
trashing thirty feet of fence
in a nose to nose
confrontation
second occasion this week.
In a gesture of tranquility snow
continues its fallout
flakes melting into a pile of
emptiness
and the ranch announces
through a parade of hooves
llamas
sheep and donkeys
mark another
plodding day in Alberta.
