Draw near, and pray

Continuing the idea of one of my old hymns on Sundays

Man can come to God almighty,
draw near and pray;
holy God of love and pity,
draw near and pray;
caring God, not weak or distant,
God of grace, though so important,
calling all to come, repentant,
draw near and pray.

He’s the God who made and formed me,
how dare I come?
he’s the God who now sustains me,
how dare I come?
All my strength and power is weakness,
infinite his glorious greatness,
for his presence I’ve no fitness,
how dare I come?

Christ is worthy of all favour
worthy to pray.
Those receiving him by faith are
welcomed to pray.
Jesus is the way to heaven,
all who love him are forgiven,
we can come to him as bidden,
draw near and pray.

Abraham, and Moses, Daniel,
drew near and prayed.
David, Solomon, Ezekiel,
drew near and prayed.
So with fear, and awe, amazement,
humbly, trustingly, repentant,
benefit from grace abundant, –
draw near and pray.

Hi Celt, thanks for reading, but I think before we comment on anyone else we need to be examining ourselves, there are many things we know we need for forgiveness for, and need to ask, but there are many things we may be blind to that we one day may see as wrong motives etc. In that light, many politicians may be hardworking, but unaware of how they are succumbing to pressures all around them … 'with what judgement you judge, you will be judged' (Matthew 7:2) Rhiannon

yep, your right Rhiannon, petty name calling has little place in worship of any kind. Can't stand the 'Tory scum' (those are Bevan's words) to be honest that breed an elementary hatred of the poor, but that's between him and his false god, Mammon.

I like this one the best of your hymns so far. I wish I knew what tune you meant, but your Welsh name means nothing to me. Maybe it doesn't have an English equivalent.

Thanks, Jean. I wrote this many years ago for my older children when they were young, but they and I always seemed to find it to the point and simple and good to sing.
The tune to me is a familiar Welsh traditional Melody used for hymns too, but I thought it fairly well-known. I have looked in some hymn books and on the net, and found it suggested for

'Tis the church triumphant singing,
Worthy the Lamb'

and 'Through the love of God our Saviour
All will be well'

and 'For the fruit of all creation,
Thanks be to God.'

Anyway the meter is 84 84 8884 and the alternatives given in my hymnbooks are  'East Acklam' by Francis Jackson, 'Southgate' by Thomas Bishop Southgate, and 'Wynnstay' by John Ambrose Lloyd.

Otherwise I guess you can probably hear the folk song sung on Utube by Bryn Terfel or a male voice choir!
