Fraternal letter to the Vatican

(written in a spirit of Humaternity, in reply to the good Dr. Moynihan)

Dear Dr. Moynihan, 

     It is my pleasure this morning to, in a spirit of fraternal good will,
send you Christian regards from the Western shores of the U.S.A....  and
to commend all good Monks and lay-people to whom this letter should
come to form a subject of study. Also, in a spirit of moderation, to
highly commend the Pontiff and his Al Laetitia...  to remind critics
that the traditional church has no higher authority than the teachings
of Jesus Nazareth, most centrally gathered in The New Testament, and
that monks and persons of higher calling actually have as much in common
with artists and wanderers as with burghers and merchants...  and that
would all be fine and commendable were we but to find or restore the
civilized harmony which is central to Christianity and human life.  As
the Bible says regarding taxes: 'Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar
and to God what belongs to God...'  as with many key parables the
meaning of this extends far past the paltry subject of taxes.  The mind
of God is mysterious and will not be fully understood...  we are called
to the nearly impossible mission of faith, that the sea will part, that
mountains are moveable, etc.  Fortunately, a handful of mustard seeds
will suffice.
