American Scream

I believe in America's vast potential and in our noble founding vision and documents. But, today, we are still a troubled nation: Many of our practices and institutions still draconian and barbaric.; And our foreign policy is often both negligent and imperialistic.
We must awaken and reform, profoundly.
Also, regarding many of these matters we need to think outside the box. Take the subject of medicine; It's beyond unfortunate the despite our society's vast wealth millions of Americans still can't afford basic medical care, but it's simplistically optimistic to think that just by providing the money or making some superficial systemic change that our medical system will be what it needs to be.
To accomplish that, we need to change minds and hearts: to reverse the stigma of disease etc.. Today's hospitals are as ineffective as they are dehumanizing, even when the money is in hand.
In this and so many other aspects, our anthem "America the Beautiful" is deceptive. Make no mistake; The potential of our American new world is immense, but our reality is profoundly flawed and draconian.
It's time for an ambitious set of reforms: a new and more democratic American regime, one that doesn't lead the entire Earth in percentage of population incarcerated, and the amount of money spent on technologies and programs designed for destruction and not capable of creation(that vast network President Eisenhower presciently termed 'the Military Industrial Complex.")
And let us loosen the reins of the security state, that we might be the land of the free not in poetic theory but in liberating reality.
