The Nova Scotia I Know

How I enjoy an
Autumn trail
with colour beneath
my feet-
a wind of chill
against my cheek.
After heaving breath
from hilly Cape
Blomidon’s
strict incline-
a good time to rest.
Peering into
a plethora of woods
a kingly moose
captures my gaze-
the cry of calm
from a Loon’s salute
far below.
The tinkle of bells
as birch leaves
bring me a smile.
At 2am a presence
chases away the dream
perhaps the nurse
making her rounds
and looking up
I see my wife
beautiful in her glow
she’s come alone-
sent to take me home.
